Students entering the Main Building are experiencing a mix of excitement and nervousness, but their smiles leave no room for doubt. This marks the beginning of the Welcome Week, which runs from today (2 September) to Friday (6 September), bringing together hundreds of new students.
During these days, new students will be welcomed by their course colleagues, who volunteered as mentors to help guide them through the campus and introduce them to the available resources. The campus visits will allow the new students to familiarise themselves with the buildings, connect with students’ organisations at the Students’ Organisations Fair, and obtain their Técnico and Universidade de Lisboa identity cards.
“I’m looking forward to it”, says João Pais, who entered the Undergraduate Programme in Aerospace Engineering – “I want to learn and enjoy university life”.
The student from Porto shares that he has been interested “in satellites and space” for several years. Choosing the course was easy – “I have a friend who is attending his second year of Aerospace Engineering and he told me a lot about it”.
Mariana Soares chose mechanical engineering influenced by her neighbour, a second-year student who shared ‘I really like the campus life. ‘People often say that Técnico is too competitive and she gave me the opposite idea’, she explains, adding that she chose Técnico “mainly because of its academic excellence” and because she knows “several people who study here and like it”.
During the Welcome Week at Alameda campus, students participate in various sessions. In the afternoon, there is a welcome session where they meet members of the Management Board, the Pedagogical Board, and the Students’ Union, followed by the presentation session of two undergraduate programmes: Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (presentation sessions of other courses take place on specific days during the Welcome Week). The welcome sessions for mobility and international students take place in the afternoon. The new Técnico master’s students have also been welcomed during the day.
Parent information sessions are scheduled for each morning of the Welcome Week according to the course presentations of that day aiming to provide relevant information about the school.
Welcome activities will continue throughout the week at the Alameda campus, while the Oeiras campus will start welcoming new students tomorrow.
