The 8th edition of the Environmental Engineering Seminar Series will be focused on the topic “Thinking about the Future, preserving the Present”. Professor Arlindo Oliveira, president of Técnico, attended the opening session and highlighted the relevance of “events organised by students” because that shows “what they are capable of”.
During the three days, current issues will be discussed, such as: forest fires, climate change, sustainability and Smart Cities. After the conferences, at the end of each panel, a debate session will take place.
According to Professor Tiago Domingos, coordinator of the Integrated Master in Environmental Engineering, the approaching of different issues reflects the essence of the course, which requires “a broad knowledge and problem solving skills”. Taking into account this diversity of knowledge, “Técnico makes the difference, by offering a wide variety of courses, allowing our students to become successful professionals. We plan to continue this way”, he said.
Francisco Castro Rego, professor at Instituto de Agronomia da Universidade de Lisboa (ISA- UL), moderated the panel “Forest Fires: Prevent the Unpredictable” and congratulated the initiative, noting that “these seminar series are becoming a classic”.
