The payment of tuition fees for all students enrolled in the 1st year of the Undergraduate Programme in Mining and Energy Resources Engineering (LEME) at Instituto Superior Técnico will be covered by companies in the mining, ornamental stone and technology sectors for mineral resources and energy, according to a statement from the Department of Engineering in Mineral and Energy Resources (DER), which also highlights that graduates will have “a global network of companies and and institutions with 100% employability waiting for them”.
The vice-president of DER, Amélia Dionísio, says “the challenges of the Energy Transition and the Digital Transition are so global, and the shortage of engineers in the field is felt worldwide, that energy and mineral sector companies in Portugal have decided to cover the full tuition fees for all LEME’s 1st-year students in the 2024/25 academic year”.
DER’s initiative aims to increase the number of engineers in the field, attract talent, meet companies’ needs, and address societal challenges such as the energy transition driven by climate change.
