Twelve Técnico students win “Caixa Mais Mundo” Awards

The number of Técnico students awarded in this edition has doubled when compared to the previous year.

Twelve Técnico students won the “Caixa Mais Mundo” Awards, delivered by Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD). The number of students awarded has doubled when compared to the previous year. Each award amounts to €1000 and aim to reward the academic merit of students admitted in Higher Education and Higher Professional Education Institutions (with protocol signed with CGD), in the academic year 2020/2021, through the national competition for access to public higher education.

The students awarded in the 2021 edition are: Ângelo Gomes, Francisco Damasceno and Joana Araújo (Aerospace Engineering); Carlos Nogueira Vaz, Mafalda Ribeiro and Nuno Alves (Computer Science and Engineering); Diogo Vieira da Silva and Sofia Garcia (Applied Mathematics and Computation); Inês Cardoso and Gonçalo Monteiro (Biomedical Engineering); Patrícia Marques and Gonçalo Ribeiro (Engineering Physics).

These cases represent five merit awards aimed at national students enrolled in undergraduate or integrated master’s courses; four scholarships aimed at students from low-income families, enrolled in undergraduate or integrated master’s courses in the current academic year; and two merit awards aimed at national students who completed a secondary school vocational training course with the best classification in the previous academic year.

The award ceremony took place this Thursday, March 18, in digital format.

The pandemic is widening social inequalities, thereby CGD has increased the number of awards, thus creating an opportunity for more students to pursue their studies in higher education. In total, 150 students were distinguished in this year’s edition.

This initiative is part of CGD Caixa Social Program. Only students enrolled or registered for the first time, without suspension or withdrawal of any module until the end of the first semester of the academic year are eligible. The eligibility criteria are the sole responsibility of CGD, in coordination with the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES).
