Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) stands out once again in international rankings. The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR 2021/2022) places ULisboa among the top 201 universities in the world, moving up 5 positions compared to the previous year. ULisboa ranks 81st in Europe and features in CWUR’s Top 1.1%. The 2021/2022 list was released this Monday, April 26, and included 19, 788 institutions from different countries.
ULisboa stands out in two main evaluation criteria: research perfomance, moving up to the 169th position, thus earning a place in the top 200 worldwide in this indicator, and quality of faculty (236th position).
Since 2012, the CWUR uses 4 indicators to rank the world’s universities: quality of Education (measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have won major academic distinctions relative to the university’s size), alumni employment (measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have held top executive positions ) at the world’s largest companies relative to the university’s size), quality of faculty (measured by the number of faculty members who have won major academic distinctions) and research performance (high-quality publications and citations).
According to CWUR, ULisboa is the best Portuguese university, followed by the University of Porto (317th position in global ranking), University of Coimbra (407th) and Universidade Nova de Lisboa (514th).
This year, the global Top3 is as follows: 1. Harvard University, 2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 3. Stanford University. The most represented country in the top 2000 are: the United States (347 universities), China (277), Japan (124), the United Kingdom (95), France (79) and Russia (46).
