Universidade de Lisboa and Instituto de Telecomunicações win Portuguese Innovation Leaders Award

Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) and Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) were distinguished by the Consumer Guidance Institute Portugal (CGIP) with the Portuguese Innovation Leaders Award. This award recognises and rewards Portuguese organisations dedicated to innovation and R&D investment. To determine the highest-scoring Portuguese companies and organisations, CGIP analysed the number and quality of patent registrations worldwide between 2017 and 2019, as well as the organisations’ websites, in order to measure their ambition and focus on innovation.

According to CGIP, ULisboa is one of the Portuguese public universities with the highest score in terms of innovations, in the period between 2017 and 2019. With a 87.8 score, ULisboa ranked 2nd. IT ranked 5th in the “Non-profit” category, with a 26.0 score.

Biosurfit, a company founded by the Técnico alumnus João Fonseca, is another winner. The medical diagnostics company focused on the development and manufacture of breakthrough technologies for the in vitro diagnostic (IVD) market, ranked 4th (57.0).
