“We thank professor António Lamas for his career and life dedicated to Técnico and to our country”

The president of Técnico announced that professor António Lamas was invited – and accepted – to lead a project aimed “to open the Alameda campus to the city of Lisbon".

This Thursday, António Lamas, Full Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources (DECivil) gave his last lecture titled “Exame Final”.

The ceremony was attended by many colleagues and friends, who left a few words to professor António lamas. “In this ceremony we thank professor António Lamas for his career and life dedicated to Técnico and to our country”, said professor Arlindo Oliveira. “Above all, we are celebrating a career dedicated to the promotion of engineering, for over forty years.”

The president of Técnico announced that professor António Lamas was invited – and accepted – to lead a project aimed “to open the Alameda campus to the city of Lisbon”. “I asked professor Lamas to join this project (…); he will help us to think how this campus can be a driving force to Lisbon. I am sure that António Lamas will leave his mark on this innovative project.”

Professor Fernando Nunes da Silva, president of DECivil, noted that “the departure of António Lamas is symbolic: he represents a paradigm of a professor who will cease to exist in short term. He represents an innovative professor who is interested in the public life.”

Eduardo Arantes de Oliveira, Emeritus Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Luis Calado, Full Professor at DECivil, and Dr. Teresa Patrício Gouveia, Trustee of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation also attended the ceremony and addressed words of gratitude to professor António Lamas.

According to António Lamas, his last lecture “was an opportunity to answer some questions: a few, but difficult questions.”
