The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal) announces a call for up to twelve PhD scholarships in selected cutting-edge areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), until 31st March, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology. This is the third edition of the “Affiliated PhD Programs” initiative aimed at students eligible for PhD at Portuguese Universities, including Instituto Superior Técnico.
The Affiliated PhD Program was launched for the first time in 2021, covering the various areas of activity of the CMU Portugal Program: Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering and Public Policy, Human-Computer Interaction, Language Technologies, Robotics and Software Engineering. Currently, the CMU Portugal Program has 21 active students, seven of which are from Técnico.
The 12 PhD scholarships have a maximum duration of 4 years, including financial support during the research period (up to 12 months) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), in the United States, fully funded by FCT through the CMU Portugal Program. This period will allow students to develop their research projects in collaboration with the North American University.
Another focus of this initiative is to strengthen the link between the candidates and Portuguese companies during the PhD studies. In the selection process, preference is given to students who present a PhD thesis plan in collaboration with a national company in their technological area.
The application deadline for the academic year 2023/2024 is 31st March 2023.
On 2nd March, at 2 p.m., the CMU Portugal Coordination Office will host an Info Session, at ITI (Hub do Beato) and via zoom, to clarify all doubts about this Call.
