The women’s futsal team of the Técnico Students’ Union (AEIST) was in the spotlight at the University Sports Gala, organised by Portugal University Sports (FADU) on 22nd November, at the Convento de São Francisco in Coimbra. The AEIST team won the “Team of the Year” Award and “Coach of the Year” Award, given to Bruno Fernandes.

The awards are for the 2022/2023 sporting season. It is the team’s crowning achievement that has also been successful at European level. In August, the Técnico students won third place at the European University Championships. The athlete Catarina Barra joined the All-Star Team, which included the best players of the tournament, held from 18th to 26th July in Split (Croatia).

In the other main categories, FADU honoured João Coelho (AEFA) as “Best Male Athlete of the Year” and Mariana Machado (AAUMinho) as “Best Female Athlete of the Year”.

The University Sports Gala also honoured the Técnico athlete Henrique Luz (Taekwondo) for his performance at the European University Championships.
