Last Saturday, June 5, the Técnico alumnus and Portuguese gymnast Diogo Abreu qualified for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games. Diogo Abreu ranked sixth in the individual trampoline final at Brescia World Cup – the penultimate round before Tokyo 2020.
On Friday, June 4, Diogo Abreu and Pedro Ferreira, both athletes at Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP) ranked sixth and ninth, respectively. In the finals, Diogo Abreu got 56.805 points and Pedro Ferreira 17.895.
Diogo Abreu discovered his passion for gymnastics through his mother, Margarida Abreu, who is also a SCP athlete. He has been a top-level athlete since he was 8 years old. He started to participate in double mini-trampoline competitions, but at the age of 16 he ventured into trampoline gymnastics competition.
He won several national championships and obtained excellent results at the international level. He participated in Trampoline group competitions at the 2014 European Championships and won silver medal. In 2016, he received a bronze medal.
Diogo Abreu received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Técnico. He has been working at Mater Dynamics as Assistant Developer since 2015.
