Huawei, a leading global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions provider, implemented in Portugal the 2nd edition of the programme “Seeds for the Future”, which provides students of Telecommunications and Computer Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering in Portugal a visit to Beijing and to its headquarters in Shenzhen.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed with AICEP in May 2014, foreseeing the selection of three top Portuguese higher education institutions. The 1st edition was implemented in July 2015.
This programme is designed to provide university students a cultural immersion experience and an introduction to Mandarin in Beijing, as well as a visit to Huawei campus in Shenzhen where students will have the opportunity to experience the working environment of China’s ICT giant Huawei.
These students will have the opportunity to interact with Huawei engineers, visit research laboratories, attend the demonstration of several innovative solutions and to closely experience the ICT skills needed for success, in a multicultural, innovative and creative environment.
In 2016, 10 students and 3 higher education institutions were selected, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Aveiro (UA) and Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL). The 3 students from Técnico are currently attending the Master programme in Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering.
“This programme reflects our commitment to the Portuguese society and the ICT industry. We believe that we are actively contributing to the development of ICT in Portugal, this is a unique opportunity to enrich students’ curriculum and expertise. The programme also reflects the strong partnership with AICEP and higher education institutions in Portugal.” says Chris Lu, Country Director at Huawei Portugal.
“Huawei’s programme “Seeds for the Future” is an excellent opportunity for Portuguese young students to develop an international culture in a real and very dynamic context. This partnership with Huawei has been consolidating the relationship and compromise between Huawei and Portugal” says Miguel Frasquilho, President of AICEP.
