The research units that are part of Instituto Superior Técnico will recruit 150 PhD researchers under the Regulation of Scientific Employment (RSE), approved by the Portuguese Parliament. Instituto Superior Técnico is represented in more than twenty research units, hosted by several private non-profit organisations that develop activities in the fields of engineering, architecture, physics and mathematics.
More than 150 calls will be open in the next two months, under the RSE, for periods up to six years, aiming to combat precarious employment and to provide PhD grants only to initial training activities in scientific career.
A significant part of the costs arising from these positions will be supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, the remainder being supported by R&D institutions at IST.
The PhD researchers who will apply for these temporary positions may also apply for one of the 250 permanent jobs at IST, for University Teaching and Scientific Research careers, in accordance with the current multi-annual employment plan.
These contracts will allow to maintain and to strengthen the research activities at Instituto Superior Técnico, which have contributed to rank Técnico among the top 50 engineering schools worldwide, according to U.S. News & World Report.
