Nine researchers and professors from Instituto Superior Técnico will be honoured at the 2025 edition of the Universidade de Lisboa/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards. Five scientific awards and four honourable mentions will be delivered to members of the Técnico community in recognition of their research work. The awards ceremony will take place on 25 June 2025, at 5.30 p.m., in the Congress Centre of Pavilhão de Portugal, as part of the Scientific Seminar Series at ULisboa.
Created in 2016, the ULisboa/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards are delivered annually and aim to reward scientific research activities and encourage the submission of papers in renowned international journals by professors and researchers at Universidade de Lisboa.
In this year’s edition, 20 scientific prizes will be awarded, five of which to Técnico researchers, in the following scientific fields:
- Computer Science, Computer Engineering: Rui Miguel Carrasqueiro Henriques, Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores – Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID);
- Civil Engineering: Carlos Paulo Novais Oliveira da Silva Cruz, Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS);
- Environmental Engineering and Energy: Diana Neves, Centre for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (IN+);
- Mechanical engineering, Ocean Engineering and Aerospace Engineering: Susana Margarida da Silva Vieira, Mechanical Engineering Institute (IdMEC);
- Pure and Applied Mathematics: José António Maciel Natário, Centre for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry, and Dynamical Systems (CAMGSD).
Of the 31 honourable mentions awarded, four will be awarded to members of the Técnico community:
- Earth Science and Geophysics: Leonardo Azevedo, Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente (CERENA);
- Civil Engineering: Maria Cristina Silva, Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS);
- Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering and Aerospace Engineering: Carlos Manuel Alves da Silva, Mechanical Engineering Institute (IdMEC);
- Pure and Applied Mathematics: Filipe Mena, Centre for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry, and Dynamical Systems (CAMGSD).
Each award is valued at 6,500 euros and serves as an institutional acknowledgment of the recipients’ contributions to the advancement of knowledge in their scientific fields.
