PhD scholarships are available at the University of Macau (UM), following the signing of the agreement between the Universidade de Lisboa / Instituto Superior Técnico (ULisboa) and UM for the award of a PhD dual degree, focused essentially for the time being on the areas of Robotics, Microelectronics, and Ocean Research.

Programme Students shall be registered at both UM and ULisboa as regular students and enrol in a paired doctoral degree programme mutual agreed by both Universities.

Each institution can nominate no more than five of their registered students to the other institution for the Programme.

Programme Students who originally registered at ULisboa are eligible to apply for UM PhD Scholarship when applying for UM doctoral programmes, and priority will be given.

The UM PhD Scholarships provide a monthly stipend for a maximum period of 48 months (including their study and research period at UM and ULisboa as long as they are registered as active students at UM), and will be disbursed to the awardees upon completion of initial registration at UM. Awardees are bound by the terms of the UM PhD Scholarship.

After fulfilling the graduation requirements of both institutions, the students will be awarded the Doctor of Philosophy at UM and Doctoral Degree at ULisboa, separately.
