Winner of 7 European research projects and an American project in the field of Quantum Technologies, Professor Yasser Omar founded the QuTe Lab – Quantum Technologies Laboratory in 2019, demonstrating for the first time, in Portugal, evidence of quantum wireless communications. Yasser Omar has now been admitted as a corresponding member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences (in the Science category, in the Physics section).
Graduated in Technological Physical Engineering at Técnico, and with a PhD in Physics from the University of Oxford, Yasser Omar is currently a teacher at the Department of Mathematics of Técnico and a researcher of the Telecommunications Institute (IT), in Lisbon, where he founded and leads the Group of Information Physics and Quantum Technologies.
The Group on Information Physics and Quantum Technologies has been involved in several research and training projects, the latter of which are the Portuguese Quantum Communications Cube-Satellite (QuantSat-PT), which ran until November 2022, in partnership with the Telecommunications Institute, the Quantum Entanglement in High Energy Physics (QEntHEP), which runs until mid-2023 and the Architectures for Quantum Information Processing (AQuIP), also running until the third quarter of 2023.
Professor Yasser Omar was also involved in the creation and leadership of Flagship in Quantum Technologies, a European Commission programme that involved funding of several billion euros to make Europe a world leader in quantum technologies.
The award of the diploma will take place on July 7, 2022, on the day of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
