Técnico professor is the first Portuguese researcher to be awarded the Gold Medal

The medal is awarded by the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision-Making and rewards a distinguished career.

José Rui Figueira, professor and researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico, was awarded the gold medal granted by the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) for his contributions to the theory, methodology and professional development of MCDM throughout his career. The award ceremony took place during the International Conference on MCDM held in Ottawa, Canada.

The International Society was created in 1975. The medals rewarding “distinguished careers” began in 1992 and only 16 researchers have been distinguished worldwide. This is the first time that a Portuguese researcher is awarded. According to professor José Rui Figueira, who is visibly proud and happy, this recognition shows that “Técnico is a top university and we are proving it”.
