Smart Environments: New Trends and Challenges

The researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology shared the diversity and the extent of projects he is currently involved in.

Joseph Paraíso, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology – MIT, delivered a lecture this Tuesday, May2, at Técnico – Alameda campus. The researcher took the opportunity to share some of his latest projects and defend their impact on human life. This lecture was held under the protocol between the US embassy in Lisbon and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST/ACorner).

The creation of smart environments requires the use of sensing technologies. Activity recognition in smart environments and automatic recognition of personal comfort level are some of Joseph Paraíso’s research topics. “This is indeed a fascinating and promising area”, he said.

According to the MIT Media Lab researcher, these applications will surely affect not only everyday life but also the construction of buildings. “I think that smart environments can certainly change the way we live and work”, he noted.
