The first edition of the workshop APPLAuSe – Advance Program in Plasma Science and Engineering, took place this Wednesday, and was atended by PhD students of the program who presented and discussed their research projects. Professor Luís Oliveira e Silva, from the Department of Physics and researcher at Group of Lasers and Plasmas (GoLP) – IPFN, presented a colloquium titled “Extreme Plasmas: from surfing at the speed of light to boiling the vacuum”.
Students had the opportunity to present and share their research with undergraduate students interested in learning more about plasma research and to discuss the progress of their work, aiming to stimulate knowledge in Physics and Engineering. “Understanding CO2 plasmas under non-equilibrium conditions” and “Extreme UV radiation from microwave driven Helium plasmas” were some of the topics approached in this workshop.
The workshop also included activities with PhD students and a closing session, which was attended by the new president of APPLAuSE program, professor João Bizarro.
