Técnico has contributed once again to ULisboa’s 1st place nationwide in thematic ranking

The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject has once again placed ULisboa as the top national institution in the field of Engineering & Technology.

The 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject results show that Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the top Portuguese higher education institution in the field of ‘Engineering & Technology’, to which Instituto Superior Técnico has contributed greatly.

The rankings were released on April 10th. 1,559 higher education institutions (HEIs) have been ranked across individual subject areas according to five indicators – ‘academic reputation’, ’employer reputation’, ‘research citations per paper’, ‘h-index’ and ‘International research network (by broad faculty area)’, which “reflects the ability of institutions to diversify the geography of their international research network”, according to the ranking’s website.

Among the HEIs included in this year’s edition, ULisboa moved up from 335th place in 2023 to 266th place. Considering the scientific branches in which Técnico is most relevant to the university’s results, ULisboa obtained its highest positions in the fields of ‘Petroleum Engineering’ (in the range 51-100), ‘Architecture and Built Environment’ (in the range 101-150) and ‘Electrical and Electronic Engineering’, ‘Civil and Structural Engineering’, ‘Chemical Engineering’ and ‘Mechanical Engineering’ (in the range 151-200).

ULisboa also stands out in areas that are equally relevant to Técnico, such as ‘Engineering and Technology’ (195th position), ‘Biological Sciences’ and ‘Environmental Sciences’ (in the range 201-250) and ‘Materials Sciences’ and ‘Computer Sciences and Information Systems’ (in the 251-300 range).

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a higher education analytics firm, in partnership with the scientific publisher Elsevier. The 2024 edition of these rankings features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas.
