The largest university competition promoted by Júnior Empresas do Instituto Superior Técnico (Junitec) since 2017 took place between 22 and 24 April, at the Champalimaud Foundation, in Lisbon. The 6th edition of Tecstorm, organized exclusively by the students of Técnico, allocated a total of 10 thousand euros distributed in four categories, with a total of 2,500 euros per participant.
In the connectivity sector, Mantis project was selected, which includes an updated, connected and synchronized smart treadmill that makes pedestrian walkways safer, acting directly on the well-being and safety of society. In the area of energy, the winner was Ecopod, with the presentation of a device equipped with electrical and mechanical systems, which enhance the use of natural resources, transforming them into green energy.
In health, the highlight was Safe and Easy Health Transportation (SEHT), with the proposal of a digital platform for the improvement of hospital transport, which makes the management of the transport of non-urgent patients, to avoid the inappropriate use of vehicles intended for emergencies. And finally, in the area of social responsibility Seeds4Kids stood out with an intelligent home garden that combines sensor monitoring technology and mobile application to nature and sustainability.
“For Junitec it’s a proud to be behind an event with the dimension and impact of TecStorm, which deserves the recognition of more and more partners, companies and entrepreneurs. For us, it is very important to encourage entrepreneurship, demystify it and bring university students closer to the world of opportunities that are available to them”, said Vera Silva, one of the company’s representatives.
“Organizing an event with the scale that TecStorm currently is a very big challenge for the team that works for it, but it’s also an absolutely unique opportunity for personal development and growth. The entire TecStorm team, and the managers in particular Gonçalo Rebelo, Mónica Abreu, Maria Lopes and Ana Matos did an exceptional job and they need to be congratulated for that”, she added.
The event took place in a face-to-face format and had more than 500 registrations, 110 participants and more than 30 partners. In addition to accommodation, transport and technical material, mentors were provided to help university students from all over the country who wanted to build their prototype, create their pitch and make their business plan.
