The 1st edition of the conference S2E 2016 – Sustainability and Energy Efficiency took place on 10th and 11th November, at Instituto Superior Técnico and was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources (DECivil), with the support of FUNDEC – Association for Training and Development of Civil Engineering and Architecture and Green World partnership.
During the conference several experiences, developed by different national and international entities working in the energy sector, were presented and discussed. Renewable Energies, Energy Consumption, Energy Management, Sustainable Construction, Energy Efficiency and Energy Certification, and also Innovation, Development and Sustainability, were some of the topics covered.
Professor Miguel Amado, from DECivil, noted that “the potential of renewable energy sector must be harnessed by our country and it’s entirely appropriate to discuss the future of this sector in a university context.”
According to the professor, “this conference made even more visible the potential that territorial urban management and renewable energy planning will have in the constitution of broad areas of zero emission territories (ZET)”. “This potential will lead to new models of organisation, which will result in a new business area associated to renewable energy, thus reinforcing a sustainable society.”
