Civil Engineering at the Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the second best in Europe, according to the US News Best Global Universities Subject Rankings. Worldwide, ULisboa ranked 34th among 250 institutions. Técnico is the ULisboa school responsible for research and teaching in this field of engineering.

As for Engineering, ULisboa ranked 20th overall in Europe and 126th globally, among 999 institutions.

ULisboa was the only Portuguese institution to be ranked in Artificial Intelligence and Water Resources, areas to which Técnico also contributes. For the first time, this ranking included Green & Sustainable Science and Technology, with ULisboa occupying 9th place at European level.

ULisboa leads the national university scene in several areas of expertise such as Artificial Intelligence, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Energy & Fuels, Engineering, Geosciences, Green & Sustainable Science and Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Space Science and Water Resources.

This ranking, based on research dimensions, was released at the end of June and included 13 indicators: global research reputation, regional research reputation, publications, books, conferences, normalised citation impact, total citations, number of publications that are among the top 10% most cited, percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited, international collaboration, international collaboration -relative to the country, number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited in their respective field and percentage of total publications that are among the top 1% most highly cited papers.
