The 1st Remote Control Room of the CMS Experiments in Portugal will be inaugurated at Técnico – Alameda campus on May 9, at 10 a.m., within LIP’s 31st anniversary. During the afternoon, LIP’s new facilities will be inaugurated. The research unit will be located in the building of ULisboa’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (3l’s)
Professor Alessandro De Angelis (from University of Padova and Visiting Professor at the Department of Physics – Técnico) and Professor Paris Sphicas (CERN) will approach the topic «The opportunities and challenges for particle and astroparticle physics in the next decade».
Alessandro De Angelis is a high energy physicist and astrophysicist. He is presently director of research at INFN Padua and chairman of the collaboration board of the MAGIC gamma-ray telescope. Paris Sphicas is a senior CERN staff physicist and professor at the University of Athens, Greece. Member of the CMS experiment since 1994, he has been deputy spokesperson and physics coordinator of the Collaboration. He has been active in searches for Supersymmetry.
