«An initiative organised by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa in partnership with Instituto Superior Técnico.

Buildings often constructed before modern building practices, can be particularly vulnerable to earthquakes. However, engineers can help buildings withstand earthquakes.

The first part of the visit starts at the Civil Engineering Museum, Instituto Superior Técnico, to understand how structures behave, what are the impacts of an earthquake and what can be done to reduce damages.

In the second part, we will visit the São Roque Church, built in the 16th century, which resisted the 1755 earthquake.»
