The ERA Chair project “BIG – Blockchain Innovation for Good”, led by the Técnico professors (DEI/IST)) Nuno Jardim Nunes (ITI / LARSyS) and Rodrigo Miragaia Rodrigues (INESC-ID), will hold its presentation event on November 8 (10:00 am to 5:00 pm), in a hybrid format (in person at the Informatics II building and online via Zoom).
The event will be divided into two parts.
- Opening ceremony, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., which will be attended by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, professor Manuel Heitor, and the President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço.
- Workshops, debates and presentation sessions focused on exploring the blockchain’s potential for Portugal, starting at 11.15 a.m. This session will be led by the ERA Chair Holder, professor Catherine Mulligan, recruited this year to lead the BIG laboratory “DCentral”. External guests from various institutions will join professor Catherine Mulligan’s team, including representatives from the Open Earth Foundation and Anchorage company.
The project BIG (Blockchain technologies and design Innovation for social Good), was awarded an ERA Chair – within the scope of the Spreading Excellence programme and Widening Participation (Widening), included in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020. With a global 2,5 million euros funding, this project will contribute to the foundation of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to top research on topics that combine blockchain technology, innovation through design, and new solutions for societal challenges.
