Lecture:
Industrial Engineering and Management offers essential methods and tools to optimise production processes and operations, reduce and control costs and improve the efficiency of companies, making them more competitive. Supply chains represent vital systems for any business in today’s global context. They are systems that require efficient, effective and sustainable management. A tough challenge! Here you can learn how Industrial Engineering and Management makes it possible to manage these systems. What’s more, you will have the opportunity to learn about various projects developed at IST in collaboration with real companies in the areas of retail, circular economy, health, and process industries, among others, and talk not only to the department’s researchers and professors, but to real players and see how, together, they face and overcome these challenges.
Ana Paula Barbosa-Póvoa is a Full Professor in Operations and Logistics, in the Department of Engineering and Management at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa. She holds a PhD from the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine. She is currently Head of the Department of Engineering and Management and coordinates the research group in Operations Management and Logistics and Supply Chain Management (OpLog) at the Centre for Management Studies of IST.
She carries out research in the area of Operations Management and Supply Chain Management, exploring the optimisation of these systems. Sustainability, resilience, uncertainty and risk in the design and planning of supply chains are among the main research-addressed domains, which has led to several national and international awards. She has twice been awarded the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa / Santander award for excellence in research. She is one of the vice-presidents of EURO, the European Association of Operational Research Society, and a founding member and co-coordinator of the Euro Working Group in Sustainable Supply Chains of the European Association of Operational Research. She is also a coordinator of the EURO WISDOM FORUM, which aims to provide a platform to support, empower and encourage the participation of all genders in Operational Research within EURO.
