In the 2024 edition, the Universidade de Lisboa / Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards honoured 13 Técnico researchers (seven awards and six honourable mentions), out of a total of 44.
The award ceremony – research grants worth 6,500 euros – will take place on 25 June at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Rectorate Building, Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa).
The award aims to “reward scientific research activities and encourage the submission of papers in renowned international journals”, covering 26 scientific areas.
22 prizes were awarded, seven of which to Técnico researchers:
- Computer Science and Computer Engineering: Nuno Miguel Carvalho Santos, Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores: Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID);
- Civil Engineering: José Bogas, Civil Engineering, Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS);
- Environmental Engineering and Energy: Ana Filipa da Silva Ferreira, Mechanical Engineering Institute (idMEC);
- Electrical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering (Avionics): Mário Gonçalo Mestre Veríssimo Silveirinha, Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT);
- Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering (Aircrafts): João Miguel da Costa Sousa, Mechanical Engineering Institute (idMEC);
- Physics and Materials: Ilídio Pereira Lopes, Center for Astrophysics and Gravitation (CENTRA);
- Pure and Applied Mathematics: Pedro Freitas, Group of Mathematical Physics at Universidade de Lisboa.
22 honourable mentions were awarded, six of which to Técnico researchers:
- Computer Science and Computer Engineering: Susana Vieira, Mechanical Engineering Institute (idMEC);
- Earth Sciences and Geophysics: Leonardo Azevedo, Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente (CERENA);
- Civil Engineering: Maria Cristina Silva, Civil Engineering, Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS);
- Civil Engineering: Rui Vasco Silva, Civil Engineering, Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS);
- Environmental Engineering and Energy: Maria da Glória de Almeida Gomes, Civil Engineering, Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS);
- Physics and Materials: Thomas Grismayer, Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion (IPFN).
