The 13th edition of Santa Bárbara seminar series took place this Wednesday, December 4, and brought together alumni, students, professors and professionals who discussed key topics and shared their experiences.
The president of Técnico, professor Arlindo Oliveira, stressed “the importance of events organised by students that have a positive impact on our school” and “the dynamism of mining engineering at IST”, which is “as important as, or even more important than it was 100 years ago”.
Professor Manuel Francisco, coordinator of the Geosciences museums at Técnico, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Técnico and Mozambique National Museum of Geology and its “benefits for both countries”.
In the afternoon, the several invited speakers addressed topics such as: the exploitation and sustainability of natural and energy resources, the EU policy and strategy on mineral resources and environment, and the monitoring of SSA parameters in Mines and Quarries.
Engineer João Carvalho (Secil) and professor José Manuel Marques (Técnico) participated in a debate moderated by engineer Mário Bastos (VISA) on regeneration in mining areas.
