The Sky Portugal Merit Award ceremony was held on April 23rd to recognise outstanding students in the Algorithms for Computational Logic Curricular Unit (UC) of Computer Science and Engineering master’s degree.
The event was attended by Pedro Amaral, Vice-President for Corporate Interface, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, who praised the solid partnership between Técnico and Sky Portugal: “We have several international companies in our partner network, mainly in Consultancy, but Sky is one of the few in the area of Engineering and Technology”, he said.
Javier María, the winner of the 2nd edition of this award, which totalled 1,535 euros, said “recognition for excellence is very gratifying”. Asked about his expectations of winning, he jokingly replied “it was a possibility that became a certainty”.
Pedro Sousa, Head of Metadata & Syndication at Sky Portugal and a Computer Science and Engineering alumnus, congratulated the winner, emphasising how proud the company is to establish such a close relationship with the school: “Sky has been in Portugal for 12 years and was initially made up of engineers graduated from Técnico”, he said.
In addition to the prize money awarded to the student, the company donated 1,025 euros to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) to improve teaching and learning conditions of this UC.
Representing the Head of DEI, professor Cláudia Antunes thanked Sky for the trust and continued support: “Sky was one of the first companies to join our partner network, and your collaboration has been essential in improving teaching and learning conditions”, she said.
