5th edition of the book “Mulheres na Ciência” features 11 female professors and researchers from Técnico

The 2023 edition of the book was launched on 8 March and highlights 107 personalities from 65 scientific institutions.

Instituto Superior Técnico is once again represented in the book “Mulheres na Ciência” (“Women in Science”), a project developed by Ciência Viva which is now in its fifth edition. Presented on International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March, the book highlights 11 female professors and researchers from Instituto Superior Técnico: Ana Barbosa-Póvoa (Industrial Engineering and Management ), Ana Maria do Rego (Chemistry), Ana Teresa Freitas (Algorithms for Genetics), Cláudia Lobato da Silva (Bioengineer), Cristina Sernadas (Mathematics), Margarida Mendes Lopes (Mathematics), Maria do Rosário Partidário (Environmental Engineer), Matilde Marques (Chemistry), Rita Nunes (Biomedical Engineer), Rosário Macário (Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment) and Susana Vinga (Computational Biologist).

After the launches in 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2023, the book ‘Women in Science’ (5th edition) brings together a further 107 portraits of female researchers from different generations and areas of knowledge, from 65 scientific institutions.

The project honours Portuguese women scientists, presenting portraits and biographies of women scientists from the most diverse areas of knowledge.
