Access to Higher Education: Técnico opens 1526 course vacancies for 2020/2021

The number of course vacancies at Instituto Superior Técnico has increased. This year a large number of students will enter the courses that usually have the highest admission average.

The 1st phase of National Competition for Access to Public Higher Education (CNAES) 2020/2021 starts this Friday, 7th August. This year, Instituto Superior Técnico offers 1526 course vacancies for undergraduate and master’s degrees in the most diverse branches of engineering.

The Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) made the data available last week, which show a global increase of 1% in the number of course vacancies. In total, Técnico offers 53 more vacancies than last year. The courses whose number of vacancies have increased are those that usually have the highest admission average: Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics and Computation and Biomedical Engineering.

Aerospace Engineering has 110 vacancies this year (18 more vacancies than the previous year). Engineering Physics opens 83 vacancies (an increase of 14). Biomedical Engineering has 79 vacancies (13 more vacancies than the previous year) and Applied Mathematics and Computation opens 46 vacancies (an increase of 8).

In total, national public universities and polytechnic institutions open 51,408 vacancies for CNAES 2020/2021, an increase of 548 vacancies as compared with the previous year. Universidade de Lisboa is the university with more course vacancies (7248), followed by University of Porto (4173), University of Coimbra (3284), University of Minho (2869) and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (2861).

The first phase of applications takes place from 7th to 23rd August, later than usual due to the covid-19 pandemic. Two more phases will take place: from 28th September to 9th October (2nd phase) and from 22nd to 26th October (3rd phase).
