Access to Higher Education: Técnico opens 1575 course vacancies

Técnico opens more 49 course vacancies than in the previous year. Applications for the 1st call of National Competition for Access to Public Higher Education (CNAES) are open until August 20.

The 1st call of the National Competition for Access to Public Higher Education (CNAES) 2021/2022 started lasted Friday, August 6. The number of course vacancies at Instituto Superior Técnico has increased once again – 1575 course vacancies in the most diverse engineering fields.

The courses whose number of vacancies have increased are those that had the highest admission average last year – Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics and Computation, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (Alameda) and Industrial Engineering and Management (Taguspark).

Aerospace Engineering is the course that has the biggest increase in number of vacancies compared to the previous academic year, with 120 places (10 more vacancies than last year’s), followed by Engineering Physics with 92 (9 more than last year’s). Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Industrial Engineering and Management had 8 more vacancies. Applied Mathematics and Computation had 6 more vacancies, totalling 52.

In total, national public universities and polytechnic institutions opened 52,242 vacancies for CNAES 2021/2022, an increase of 834 vacancies as compared with the previous year, and the highest number since 2013.

Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the university with more course vacancies (7248), followed by University of Porto (4406), University of Coimbra (3296) and University of Minho (2928).

The application for CNAES must be submitted online – DGES website – through digital authentication (citizen card) or Digital Mobile Key.

The end of integrated master’s degrees in engineering

CNAES 2021/2022 is marked by the end of integrated master’s degrees in engineering and psychology, in Portugal. Graduates will have to pursue a 2nd cycle master’s degree later. Técnico offers only 1 integrated master’s degree – Architecture.

In addition to taking on the challenge of moving towards a 3+2 model (3 years of bachelor’s degree + 2 years of master’s degree), Técnico has also redesigned its teaching model, which includes more multidisciplinary and flexible study plans, allowing students to attend curricular units in the areas of humanities, arts and social sciences, thus complementing the solid basic education in engineering sciences.

Considering the current conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, all applicants must have access to the Digital Mobile Key associated with Citizen Card, so that, in case of placement, they can enroll at Técnico it in a simple way. The Digital Mobile Key can be requested here and its activation may take a few weeks, so it is important to make the request in advance.

All important information, including the enrolment process, is available at Welcome to Técnico (only available in Portuguese).
