Campus and Community

Although the week is coming to an end, the Welcome Week doesn’t stop

The Student Organisations Fair brings together hundreds of new students who arrive at Técnico on the fourth day of the Welcome Week. Manuel was admitted to Engineering Physics and doesn’t hide his enthusiasm as he visits the different exhibition stands. “I’ve done some research on the different student organisations and I’m looking forward to experiencing that,” he says.

The Fair is the final stop on a route that starts almost at the Main Building’s doors, and takes the new students to some of the buildings and facilities they will walk through over the next few years. To do this, they rely on the help of mentors who are assigned to them on arrival and who accompany their academic journey, helping them to integrate into the university life that starts now. Diana, who is excited to begin her studies in Architecture, says “the mentors’ initiative is really useful. I haven’t started the year yet and I’ve already got an idea of how things are going to be – the professors, access to materials…”.

The presentation sessions of each study programme are also very important. On the fourth day of the Welcome Week, the sessions are scheduled as follows: Architecture, Civil Engineering and Engineering Physics, at Alameda campus. Electronics Engineering and Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, at Taguspark campus.

In these lectures, which take place in the afternoon, the new students get to know their professors, the representatives of student organisations and tutors. The latter are responsible for accompanying and helping students throughout their academic journey (the assignment of a tutor is automatic. Information on this subject can be found online, on the Fénix platform).

“I have been hearing about Técnico since the tenth grade”, shares Gastão, who got into Civil Engineering, which left him “with high expectations”. He’s optimistic about the university life that awaits him – “I see myself studying for a few more years and get a master’s degree… I think it’s the best place to spend my next years “. The First Steps at Técnico webpage includes useful information such as the Welcome Week and other important aspects for those who have just arrived at Técnico.
