Starting September 1, undergraduate and master’s students in various programmes at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, will be able to apply for the “Patron-funded Scholarships” for the 2026/2027 academic year. Funded by corporate and private patrons, these scholarships aim to support students in continuing their studies by mitigating the financial difficulties related to their socioeconomic circumstances.
Applications are open until 28 September 2026, through the Connect platform. Deadlines may vary depending on the type of financial aid the student is applying for, in accordance with the schedule established for each scholarship.
The type of support offered varies by scholarship and may include cash grants, training, or housing assistance. Eligibility criteria, application requirements, and specific information about each type of scholarship can be found on the Academic Development Office (NDA) website, in a restricted area for School members.
Support provided through new partnerships
In the 2025/2026 academic year, Técnico awarded 172 scholarships, including 124 new awards and 48 renewals, totaling nearly 290,000 euros. This year, the range of patron-funded scholarships has been expanded to include four new scholarships: Iberis Capital, MNPinho, Quadrante, and Engenheiro Carlos Morais.
The partnership with the Técnico Alumni Association (AAAIST) was further strengthened through the Alumni-Técnico Scholarships. The 2025/2026 edition awarded 10 scholarships, including two renewals, which is double the number given in the previous academic year. These scholarships are part of the Técnico Alumni Solidarity Fund, which was restructured in 2023 to enhance direct support for students. Each scholarship can provide up to 4,000 euros per year.
Alongside the “Patron-funded Scholarships”, Técnico offers other initiatives aimed at addressing specific needs or supporting students in particular fields. These include the Feedzai Women in Science Scholarships and the TagEnergy Women in Energy Scholarships, promoted by the Technology Transfer Division and focused on specific areas of education and research.
The Recursos+ Programme also supports students in a specific field of study, covering the full annual tuition fee for students entering the first year of the Undergraduate Programme in Mining and Energy Resources Engineering, through support from companies in the mineral and energy resources sectors.
Additionally, the Merit Awards, funded by members of the Técnico Partner Network, recognise the academic performance of students and provide annual support totaling more than 75,000 euros.
Other types of support
In addition to the resources provided by Técnico, students can also receive support from Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) and the ULisboa Students’ Union.
The Alumni Solidarity Scholarships, funded by ULisboa, are available for undergraduate students across its faculties, including those at Técnico. The Social Emergency Fund (FES) provided by the ULisboa Students’ Union is designed to address situations of proven financial need among undergraduate students.
The FES offers two types of support:
- Emergency Tuition Support, up to a maximum of 697 euros;
- Rent Payment Support, up to a limit of 1,000 euros, available throughout the academic year while funds last.
