Bar-Ilan University and Instituto Superior Técnico sign double-degree agreement

Thanks to this agreement, students from both institutions will have the opportunity to attend an innovative joint MSc programme in Neuroscience, Data Science and Biomedical Engineering.

Instituto Superior Técnico and Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University, recently signed a bilateral agreement that will allow students from both institutions to obtain a double degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering and data science. Students will have the opportunity to spend their second year at the partner university.

João Sanches, professor at the Department of Bioengineering (DBE) and coordinator of the MSc degree programme in Biomedical Engineering, points out “this joint programme has all the ingredients to be successful. The partners complement each other without overlapping. We understood from the start that the cultures and working methods of both institutions were very similar and compatible, so we think that this collaboration will be a success”.

Subjects of study will include advanced courses in these fields at both universities. At Bar-Ilan University, emphasis will be given to issues related to neuroscience. Técnico will focus on biomedical engineering and data science. At both institutions, students will specialise in understanding and deciphering signals from the nervous system.

Professor João Sanches highlights “this cooperation will provide Portuguese students with new interdisciplinary experiences, exposure to cultural diversity, networking and international career opportunities”.

The applications submitted to the joint international MSc degree programme will be analysed by a selection committee composed of professors from both entities.

This bilateral agreement was the launch pad for a broader partnership involving other international institutions under the Erasmus Mundus programme, which is expected to be approved soon.
