Bioengineering Week attracts 600 participants from several courses and institutions

From 20th to 24th March, the Bioengineering Week took place in a hybrid format from Instituto Superior Técnico.

The 8th edition of the Bioengineering Week took place from 20th to 24th March, in a hybrid format. Most activities were broadcasted live on YouTube channel, which allowed to reach a total audience of nearly 600 people, from various courses and institutions.

Around 70 speakers and 17 companies participated in the event (13 attended the job fair), with the support of another 22. The event was organised by 68 Técnico students from different courses of the Department of Bioengineering.

Besides promoting the approach to the business environment, the Bioengineering week also aimed at “strengthening relationships between the academic community and the scientific world”. The sharing and dissemination of the work that is being developed in Portugal and abroad, in the different areas of bioengineering, was the path chosen to achieve the goal. Thus, the 2023 edition included eight lectures, six workshops, six pitches, two sessions with alumni, a job fair and a presentation session of a PhD programme. Study visits were also resumed and the novelty was a debate on human genome editing.

The event’s scientific programme was a concern of the event organisers who, considering the vastness of Bioengineering, wanted to “disclose the advances in the different areas” and, in this way, show how Bioengineering “can contribute to a better and more sophisticated society”, explain the organisers of the Bioengineering Week.
