Biomedical and Biological engineering highlighted at DBE’s open laboratories

Scientific demonstrations on Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Biomedical Imaging, Biomechanics and Biomaterials, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine were some of the activities carried out during the week.

From 6th to 10th February, the Department of Bioengineering (DBE) organised the 2017 edition of DBE’s Open Laboratories, in collaboration with the student groups of Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

Over 700 students from 15 schools participated in this event and had the opportunity to attend lectures on Bioengineering – stem cells, marine biotechnology, anticancer agents or robotic surgery were some of the topics approached – and participate in small experiments on different scientific areas.

Professor Jorge Leitão presented Biological and Biomedical Engineering courses and explained their differences. Representatives of the student groups of Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering participated in the lectures and explained their mission (“to provide the necessary tools so that students make the best use of the course”).
