The ‘Bondalti and Amélia de Mello Foundation’ scholarships ceremony took place on 21 February in the Civil Museum, at Técnico – Alameda campus. 12 students were awarded at the ceremony.
In the 5th edition of the scholarship programme, the sponsors awarded five new scholarships and renewed seven. Additionally, two new scholarships were awarded in addition to those that were planned.
Guilherme Martins, an Electrical and Computer Engineering student, had his scholarship renewed. He shared his ‘happiness at seeing so many Técnico professors interested in this topic’. According to Gonçalo Martins, an aerospace engineering student, ‘this scholarship opens many doors, facilitates contact with institutions and encourages volunteering’, which is a mandatory component for all beneficiaries of the programme. Matilde Ricardo, a Biological Engineering student, described the scholarship as ‘a great support to continue her studies in Lisbon’.
Francisco Melo, the Vice-President of Técnico for Academic Affairs, recalled the importance of these scholarships, as they ‘celebrate academic merit on the one hand and the generosity of patrons on the other’.
Students who received the ‘Bondalti and Maria Amélia de Mello Foundation’ scholarship this academic year: Ana Velho, André Lopes, Francisco Santos, Gabriela Barros, Guilherme Martins, Gonçalo Miranda, João Pontes, João Marques, Mafalda Pinheiro, Matilde Ricardo, Sara Brandão and Tiago Sousa.
The ‘Bondalti and Maria Amélia de Mello Foundation’ scholarship programme is aimed at academically successful Técnico students, enrolled in the 1st and 2nd cycle of study, who face financial difficulties.
Jorge Quintas, representing the Amélia de Mello Foundation, congratulated everyone and highlighted the foundation’s origins, in 1964, emphasising its ‘strong industrial vocation’, and assuring ‘that’s where the future lies’.
Susana Carvalho, a Bondalti representative and a Técnico alumna, shared ‘this support is more than an act of generosity, it is an act of intelligent investment’ because we believe that these students ‘have the ability to create a more resilient world, one that is prepared to face the challenges of the future’.
Also present at the ceremony were: Fátima Vaz, vice-head of the department of Mechanical Engineering for Academic Affairs, Luís Reis, coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Mechanical Engineering, João Melo de Sousa, coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Aerospace Engineering, Tânia Sousa, coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Environmental Engineering, Nuno Mira, coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Biological Engineering, Henrique Matos, head of the department of Chemical Engineering, Ana Paula Serro, coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Chemical Engineering, João Rasga, vice-president for liaison with mathematics degrees, Lina Oliveira, coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Mathematics, Leonor Godinho and Tânia Varela, coordinators of the Undergraduate Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management.
