Hundreds of students prepare for the job market with Talent Bootcamp at Técnico

On 3rd and 4th May, the Técnico students were able to improve their communication skills in business environment.

“You have the greatest talent in this country in front of you”, said Rogério Colaço, president of Instituto Superior Técnico, to the company representatives who attended another edition of the Talent Bootcamp, organised by Magma Studio in partnership with Técnico, referring to the school’s students. The event took place on 3rd and 4th May, and brought together more than 200 people, including students and company representatives, who participated in communication exercises and networking sessions.

The event was organised in partnership with around 20 Técnico students’ organisations and gave participants a chance to develop various skills to succeed in today’s job market – drawing up an effective CV and conducting job interviews were some topics covered.

“Don’t let these young people go”, said Rogério Colaço after his speech, calling on the company representatives to stop the “bleeding of talent that the country is suffering” by offering “good working conditions for everyone” and “good employment contracts”. “They [the students] will give it all back double”, said the president, who repeatedly emphasised the skills of the Talent Bootcamp participants.

Pedro Reis, a 3rd year Civil Engineering student, says he came to the event “for the prestigious participating companies” and to find out more about summer internships and further training opportunities. “I’ve improved my communication skills with different entities”, says the student, sharing that it was his “favourite part of the event”.

One of the highlights of the Talent Bootcamp was to develop and perform a pitch, a short presentation that each student made to companies. Sílvia Cintra, a Chemical Engineering alumna, has already attended other Talent Bootcamps as a pitch evaluator and confesses that she “always gets inspired”. She also shared that she took the morning to “walk around the South Garden and miss her student days”. “I have fond memories of my days at Técnico” she recalls.
