JUNITEC presents a project at the Science Museum of London

On July 7, JUNITEC – Junior Enterprises of Instituto Superior Técnico, will present one of its projects at the Science Museum of London, in partnership with Patient Innovation, a platform that allow patients to share their experiences.

The project Bolsos Térmicos Amovíveis arose from the need to help Diogo, a young pianist with a rare neuromuscular disease (Charcot-Marie-Tooth) which causes serious circulation problems.

Patient Innovation challenged JUNITEC to develop an electronic pain relief device to help Diogo facing the pain in his hands. This heating device may be placed in his coat pockets, improving blood circulation and thus reduce pain during his performances.

After the conclusion of this project, in September 2015, Patient Innovation invited JUNITEC to develop four similar devices – one of them will be presented in London, and the others will be presented in an itinerant exhibition across different cities, including Lisbon.

According to JUNITEC, “presenting this project at the Science Museum of London will give notoriety to the work developed by our team and will promote Instituto Superior Técnico and the oldest junior enterprise in Portugal”. In the future the team intends to continue its work and to focus on “innovative and entrepreneurial projects that can make a difference in society”.
