On 4 October, McKinsey, a member of the Técnico Partner Network, awarded Diogo Francisco for his academic performance in the Computational Mathematics Curricular Unit. ‘This award motivates students and recognises their successes’ said the Mechanical Engineering student, who received a prize of 1600 euros.
André Crispim, an Applied Mathematics and Computation undergraduate student, and Carolina Araújo, an Aerospace Engineering undergraduate student, received honourable mentions.
According to Pedro Amaral, the Vice-President of Técnico for Corporate Interface, Innovation and Entrepreneurship ‘Técnico is very proud to have its students honoured by McKinsey’. He also highlighted the long-standing partnership with McKinsey and the positive impact of this type of award on students’ motivation.
Diogo Amorim Santiago, a Técnico alumnus and Junior Engagement Manager at McKinsey, emphasised the importance of the relationship with Técnico, saying that the consultancy firm values ‘the way Técnico teaches its students to think, a fundamental skill for both McKinsey and the business community’.
In addition to honouring students, McKinsey made a donation of 1070 euros to the Department of Mathematics to improve teaching and learning conditions. Representing the Head of the Department, João Rasga highlighted the importance of this partnership: ‘This award recognises the importance and modernity of our curricular units, which is fundamental for the quality of teaching.’
