Student of Applied Mathematics and Computation wins McKinsey Merit Award

João Camarneiro achieved the highest score (20 points) on Complex Analysis and Differential Equations course unit.

The Técnico student João Camarneiro (Applied Mathematics and Computation), won the McKinsey Merit Award in Complex Analysis and Differential Equations amounting to €1290. The student achieved the highest score (20 points) on Complex Analysis and Differential Equations course unit. João Camarneiro also won the Kearney Class Excellence Award 2020/2021.

João Camarneiro thanked Técnico, the Department of Mathematics (DM) and McKinsey for the award: “Recognition keeps students motivated to reach their goals and achieve better results”, highlighted the student.

The Vice-president of Técnico for Operations and Enterprise Relationships, professor Pedro Amaral, congratulated the award winner and highlighted the importance of the awards that recognize the outstanding academic performance of students in such course units. Professor Pedro Amaral thanked McKinsey’s support “we are counting on you right now, but above all we count on you for future successes”.

Engineer Nuno Meneses, Partner at McKinsey & Company and Técnico alumnus, stressed the importance of the relationship between Técnico and the business world. “As a Técnico alumnus, I am very happy to see the close link between Técnico and McKinsey”, he said. “This award allows us to monitor and support 2nd year students, which we consider a matter of great importance in student life. We believe that Técnico students are not only interested and concentrated on the final year”.

A donation of €867 was awarded to IST/DM to improve teaching quality.
