Miguel Andrade was the winner of the 5th edition of the Cisco Merit Award, with a final grade of 19. This award recognises the academic merit of Técnico students enrolled in the Network Architecture and Management curricular unit. “I am very happy with this recognition, which represents the hard work and dedication I have put in throughout the course”, said the student, also expressing his thanks to those who “motivate us to go further”.
The award ceremony took place on 3 October at Técnico – Alameda campus, bringing together Cisco representatives, faculty from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC), and members of the academic community. The prize, awarded for the fifth time, includes a cash prize of €1,750 for the winning student and a donation of €1,170 to DEEC, intended to improve the teaching conditions of the curricular unit.
Nuno Horta, a professor at Técnico and Head of DEEC, expressed his gratitude to Cisco, emphasising that, in addition to recognising students’ excellence, this award helps strengthen DEEC’s entire teaching infrastructure. He also offered words of appreciation to the prize winner and to his colleagues for their dedication and for the demanding task of serving on the jury.
Representing Cisco, João Marques highlighted the importance of the partnership with Técnico and of encouraging young talent. “It is a pleasure to be back at this ceremony for the fifth time. Cisco really likes to reward excellence and really likes to invest in young people’s education”. He also congratulated the winning student on his outstanding performance, noting the effort and dedication shown in achieving this milestone.
Paulo Pereira, Senior Lecturer of the Network Architecture and Management Curricular Unit and a member of the jury, thanked Cisco for its continued support over the years, reinforcing the importance of these funds for the department.
Cisco has been a member of the Técnico Partner Network since 2019, and since the pandemic began, it has annually recognised students who stand out for their academic performance and dedication, strengthening the link between the School and the technology sector.
