The AEIST Jobshop is organised annually by AEIST (Técnico Students’ Union), with the aim of bringing together employers and university students. The 33rd edition took place from 4th to 6th May, in virtual format.
This year’s edition included the job fair (Easy Virtual Fair), webinars and a Pitch Room. In order to attract students’ attention, the event included a number of new features, such as the Green Space, debates and the Research Talks. “The Green Space focused on disseminating products and activities related to sustainability, through videos and website articles”, says Bárbara Oliveira, coordinator of Jobshop. “The event also included 2 debates – one focused on sustainable universities and the other one focused on corporate sustainability – which brought together several guest speakers and CEOs”, stresses Bárbara Oliveira. The Research Talks enabled students to talk with several researchers from different areas and learn about their projects.
According to Bárbara Oliveira, the highlight of this year’s edition was the Pitch Room. “Large and renowned companies worldwide attended the event and we have received very positive feedback from students”, says the coordinator of Jobshop. “I had the opportunity to participate in the Pitch Room and I have to say that it was an incredible and very enriching experience”, adds Bárbara Oliveira.
Luís Machado, president of Região Sul da Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portuguese Engineers Order – South region), Ricardo Mendes, CEO of Tekever, Carlos Gomes, Head of Digital Service at NOS, Jeff Lennon, Vice President of Strategic Sales and Global Partnerships at Vision-Box, and Gabriel Correia, Deputy Director at Casais Group, shared their career paths with the audience.
“Although the pandemic constraints, the Jobshop is still highly recognised and much valued by companies. It was a really good surprise”, stresses the Técnico student.
Among the 60 companies that participated in the virtual job fair, we highlight: EDP, EY, PwC, Nowo, Celfocus, Softinsa, The Navigator Company and Accenture.
“This year, the student participation has decreased. We are aware that people are not used to virtual events but even so we managed to have 200 people attending the job fair”, says Bárbara Oliveira. “Jobshop grows every year. The future editions will include new activities and opportunities for Técnico students”, she adds.
