Presentation session of the Career Discovery programme

The presentation session of the Career Discovery programme, organised by the Technology Transfer Office at Técnico (ATT), took place this this Thursday, September 29.

“The transition to the job market has undergone major changes in recent times”, said Carla Patrocínio, Head of the ATT. With this in mind, it is increasingly necessary that Técnico students are well prepared for the entry into the job market.

The Career Sessions aim to help students prepare for this stage of their lives. According to Carla Patrocínio, career planning includes three steps: first, it is necessary to identify areas, companies and potential people, then it is necessary to set goals and, finally, it is necessary to contact companies.

The Head of ATT explained how the recruitment process is organised, what is most important to a recruiter, the best way to demonstrate skills, and some problems faced in recruitment.

Carla Patrocínio highlighted the four lines of action of the Técnico Career Center. First of all, it is necessary that students are prepared and, for this purpose, the ATT organises the Career Discovery Sessions and the Career Training Workshops, and created the Técnico Business Cards. Then, students should explore the different options through the Career Weeks, Job Shop, Técnico Job Bank and the Técnico Alumni Mentoring Program. Next, the students can be more involved in the Técnico community by joining the different Student Groups and Clubs. Finally, the Técnico Career Center will prepare students for the job market, through initiatives such as the Best Inside View, Alumni Talks, Talent Bootcamp, Summer Internships, Meet Up With a Company and Company Presentation Sessions.
