Leonardo Azevedo, professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources (DECivil) and researcher at CERENA was awarded by the Society for Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) with the J. Clarence Karcher Award in recognition of his contributions to Science and Technology in areas related to exploration geophysics.
“I couldn’t be happier!”, says the Técnico professor. “The J. Clarence Karcher Award is an international prestigious award given by the world’s leading professional organisation in geophysics”, he adds.
According to professor Leonardo Azevedo, “this award is the recognition of the excellent work that has been developed in recent years at CERENA in the areas related to subsurface modelling, by a group of people who work directly with me: colleagues and, in particular, master’s and doctoral students”. “Técnico was also very important because it has allowed me to develop our work and to look for international collaborations, which are essential to develop the work that was awarded”.
The award ceremony will take place during the Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy (IMAGE 2022), to be held from 28th August to 2nd September, 2022, in Houston (Texas, United States of America).
These awards were established by SEG to honour the memory of J. Clarence Karcher and his enormous contribution to exploration geophysics. A maximum of three awards can be given each year.
Founded in 1930, SEG is a is a not-for-profit organization supporting more than 20,000 members, from 128 countries, committed to connecting the world of applied geophysics.
