Sixteen Técnico students have been awarded Gulbenkian New Talents Scholarships “aimed to identify and support the talent of outstanding students and stimulate their journey into the world of research”. In addition to the financial support of up to 3,500 euros, the award allows the winners to participate in an immersive talent enrichment programme, with tutors of recognised merit and monitoring by a Scientific Committee dedicated to each area of the programme, to stimulate the start of their research career.
In this year’s edition, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation awarded 99 scholarships in various areas, such as Biology (17), Social Sciences (15), Humanities (13), Mathematics (19), Chemistry (16) and Physics (19). In the latter, it is noteworthy that six of the winners are Técnico students, representing almost a third of the winners in this area.
The scholarship includes support for the payment of tuition fees and to promote research (1,000 euros); for “talent enrichment activities such as advanced training courses; participation in conferences and summer schools; internships, language courses, purchase of books and laboratory supplies” (1,500 euros) and for applicants with an annual per capita household income of less than 12,000 euros (1,000 euros).
