The contributions of Técnico research units to the ambitions Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and to the consolidation of the impact of the PRR on Portugal’s economy and competitiveness were discussed today, July 15, at Técnico – Alameda campus. The session was attended by the Secretary of State for Economy, Dr. João Neves, the President of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Prof. Madalena Alves, and the President of the National Innovation Agency, Prof. Joana Mendonça.
Ten Técnico research units coordinate 24 projects of the Mobilizing Agendas for Business Innovation, out of a total of 51 projects approved. The overall financing package proposed is 47,549,902.65€, which will be used to support projects led by companies in the scientific areas of Technologies and Production Engineering (ten projects), Energy, Environment and Mobility (nine projects), Information and Communication Technologies (three projects), Materials and Microtechnology (one project) and Chemistry (one project).
“The RRP projects clearly highlight the key role that the Técnico research units play in the national strategy and in transferring knowledge from the academic to the private sector. Participating in 24 agendas highlights the potential of Técnico and the ability of our research groups to build critical mass and embrace large projects that aim to boost our economic competitiveness and create more and better jobs. The challenges inherent in these projects have also succeeded in bringing together research groups from different units and exploring interdisciplinary synergies, which will maximise our contribution to achieve the intended results. The Técnico research units have shown well that they are ready to face new challenges and proved necessary to help the country’s ambitions”, says Fátima Montemor, Vice-president of Técnico for Research and International Affairs.
The Técnico research units involved in the RRP projects are: Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente (CERENA), Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS), Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB), Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica (IDMEC), Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (IN+), Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores para os Microsistemas e Nanotecnologias (INESC MN), Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR | Lisboa), Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI) and the Associated Laboratory Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID).
