Técnico prepares to welcome 1,624 new students

The school filled 97% of its available places for the National Call for Access to Public Higher Education.

1,624 students secured a place in one of the 19 undergraduate programmes (first cycle) at Instituto Superior Técnico in the first National Call for Access to Public Higher Education 2025/2026. This year experienced a nearly 20% decrease in the number of applicants to higher education, marking the first time that the number of applicants was significantly lower than the number of available places. At Técnico, 74% of those accepted (1,624 students) entered their first choice, an increase from 66% the previous year. This percentage rises to 96% when including students who were accepted into their second and third choices.

Técnico filled 97% of its available places (1,667) and received 1,858 first-choice applications. It successfully filled all spots in 16 out of its 19 undergraduate programmes.

The ratio of places to first-choice applications at Técnico is 1.11, a number higher than the national average, which is below 1.

Aerospace Engineering had the highest Minimum Grading Point (MGP) for admission through the general quota, with a score of 185.10, ranking sixth nationally. Other notable programmes include Engineering Physics (177.8), Mechanical Engineering (175), and Biomedical Engineering (174).

Forty-three places will be available for the second call for applications to undergraduate programmes in Telecommunications and Informatics, Electronics Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering (Taguspark).
