Eight students from the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment at Técnico (DECivil) were recognised for their academic merit during the opening ceremony of DECivil . The awards, which were created in honour of five Técnico notable professors, were presented on 23 September at the Civil Engineering Building, Alameda campus.
The president of Técnico, Rogério Colaço, congratulated the DECivil on this event and was ‘particularly pleased with the number of students entering Técnico in these scientific fields this year. ‘The market needs civil engineers,’ he emphasised, also recalling the school’s position in international rankings – ’Técnico’s Civil Engineering training is one of the best in Europe and even in the world.’
‘Técnico offers a unique architecture training that is very different from other architecture courses in our country. It comprises a different technical and scientific component that is recognised by employers and society’, the president highlighted.
António Pinheiro, the Head of DECivil, thanked the professors who attended the ceremony and expressed gratitude for the students’ dedication. ‘Professors are pleased to see their students achieve their goals and reach their full potential’, he said, also stressing that the work developed by the students “is a contribution to society”.
The ceremony also featured a talk by Luís de Picado Santos, a professor at Técnico, titled “As Infraestruturas de Transportes e a Engenharia Civil: Uma experiência de ensino, investigação e profissional”. Some members of the Architecture Students’ Organisation (NucleAR) and the Civil Engineering Students’ Organisation also attended the event.
